Alanya’s culture is deeply rooted in the city’s location and tourism. Since it is close to the sea there are many annual festivals that make the city unique.
The International Mersin Stone Sculpture Symposium has taken place since year 2000 organized by the Mersin University and the Mersin Municipality. The aim of the symposium is to contribute to Mersin with quality works of art. The material used is white Afyon marble.

Velislav Minekov graduated sculpture in 1986 at the Art Academy of Sofia, Bulgaria, in the class of Dimitar Daskalov. He specialized metal design in Hamburg with Prof. Jürgen Birthe. Velislav Minekov is currently professor in the specialty "Metal" at the Art Academy of Sofia, Bulgaria. He is son of the famous bulgarian coryphaeus in monumental sculpture Velichko Minekov.
Prof. Velislav Minekov deals primarily with sculpture and metal design. He helped in the organisation of two exhibitions of his students- "Scrap" (2007) and "Living in metal" (2010).
Prof. Velislav Minekov has solo exhibitions in Turkey and Germany. He participated in numerous international sculpture symposiums and competitions.
